Career profile
AFL career: 1992–2007
Barry Wagner helped define what it meant to be an arena football ironman. As a receiver, defensive back, runner, and returner, he could change a game in several ways without leaving the field. His six consecutive AFL Ironman of the Year awards from 1992 through 1997 reflect the range and consistency that made him a centerpiece of the Orlando Predators.
Wagner helped Orlando capture its first ArenaBowl championship in 1998 before winning two more titles with the San Jose SaberCats in 2002 and 2004. His career included more than 13,000 receiving yards, 127 rushing touchdowns, and 47 interceptions. Those numbers tell the story of a player whose value extended well beyond a single position.
Inducted into the Arena Football Hall of Fame in 2011, Wagner was selected as the greatest player in AFL history by the league’s Silver Anniversary Committee in 2012. His place in the IAN Hall Of Fame honors that complete contribution to the indoor game.
